High School pro-life group kicks off new year
Approximately 125 cheering teenagers attended a kick-off rally for Truth Illuminated July 26th at St. Gabriel’s parish. The night started off with praise and worship music which continued throughout the evening. Adrienne Doring, Respect Life Director, explained the concept of Truth Illuminated as a network of high school pro-life youth groups. She told members of existing chapters how they could beef up their membership and she explained to prospective members how they could get a chapter started at their Catholic high school or parish.
The evening also featured a talk from sophomore John Ross about why life issues and groups like Truth Illuminated are so important. The highlight of the evening was a post-abortion testimony courageously shared by Sharon Echols, a member of St. Mark’s parish in Independence. After the event, the high school students enjoyed dessert and social time. This metro-wide get-together started the new school year with a bang.
Truth Illuminated members will meet with their local chapter each month. Meeting outlines are provided by the Respect Life Office so that the education is already planned and ideas for service activities are provided.
