
Pet blessings scheduled at Kansas City parishes

KANSAS CITY - Parishes in Kansas City will be blessing pets the weekend of Oct. 4-5 in honor of the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals.
Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Redemptorist) Parish will have its first blessing of the animals on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. Four-legged pets need to be on a leash. Owners and animals will gather in front of the old convent chapel, 204 W. Linwood, for the blessing.

Guardian Angels Parish will have an Oct. 4 pet blessing at 11 a.m. Pet owners and animals are asked to gather on the front steps of the church, 1310 Westport Road, at 10:45 a.m. Plans for the short service include prayers and guitar music. St. Thomas More Parish is having a pet blessing at 7 p.m., Oct. 4, in the church's More Hall, 11822 Holmes Rd. A pet caricaturist will be available beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information contact the parish at (816) 942-2492.
St. Francis Xavier Parish will have a pet blessing at 10 a.m., Oct. 5. Pet owners are asked to bring their leashed or caged pets to the parking area behind the church at 1000 E. 52nd St. For additional information, contact the parish at (816) 523-5115, ext. 201.
The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception will have its annual blessing of the animals at 10 a.m. Oct. 5. Animals and their owners will gather on the west lawn of the cathedral for the service. For more information, contact the parish at (816) 842-0416. END
